Inspired by the BMX movement during the 1980s, Dan Hanebrink, a venture capitalist, designed this Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) Super bike to be the World's Fastest Bicycle. Aerodynamics makes little difference on a bicycle until approximately 23 MPH. By using polymers to encapsulate the spokes and adding slipstreams behind the front wheel, seat and in front of the rider, Mr. Hanebrink produced a bicycle that could easily reach speeds of 30 - 35 MPH on level ground with no headwinds. Add to this the 73 tooth sprocket and 6 speed derailer, this could indeed be the world's fastest. Called the "Cafe Racer", this bicycle could be compared to the Edsel. A few were made and sent to dealers hoping for factory orders that never came.
