Wolf American out of New York State was first to design the Diamond Safety Frame which began the six-day racing era. Also a free wheeling bicycle, if going down hill one would have to place pressure on the cranks in a back-pedal in order to slow down. Six day racers would have several of these bikes in their stable so their race would not be interrupted by mechanical problems. This particular bike was first purchased by a racer, who wrecked it early on, notice the warped front wheel. The racer then stored it in his attic for the next ninety-plus years and upon his death, his family sold it at estate auction. Two years after this model came out, the wooden rims would be iron clad and two years after that , the wood was eliminated altogether. This bicycle is completely original including the BF Goodrich tires and seat. Notice the design of the seat, with a hole in the middle. This design disappeared for over ninety years, but has returned today in the need to eliminate pressure points for the rider.
This bicycle is from the collection of H.H. Thomas of Lexington, Ky. Pictured right.
